Hillside Hideaway Retreat - Craft Room Reveal

Welcome to Hillside Hideaway Retreats Craft Room! The area where all the fun is going to happen and where we focused a lot of our planning to make it as perfect as possible!
I am a quilter but also do paper crafting, so I tried to design our retreat with all crafters in mind, not just quilters.
Let's take a quick tour!
There are 12 large individual tables for each guest. Each table's work surface measures 28" x 63". The tables themselves are also height adjustable at the push of a button! Meaning you can put them at your preferred working height. Plus, it gives you the option to sit, stand, or switch it up throughout your stay! They are also very sturdy. I have tested them with my sewing machine... no vibrations as you get with folding tables!
In addition to the 12 work tables, there are also 12 adjustable height side tables to add a little extra table space for each guest. If your group does not need all 12, the unused tables can be stored out of the way in our cleaning closet.
As you can see, there is plenty of space for all the tables, chairs, extra side tables, all your supplies, and moving around! We have made sure that even when everyone is using a side table, there is still room for a walking path between each other and to the design walls.
The office chairs at each table are very comfortable. They have lots of adjustments available, including height, lumbar, tilt, and arms that can move out of the way.
Nothing is worse than having to crawl under the table to plug in your cords. Or not having enough outlets for all the things!
Each table has its own surge protector with not only outlets, but USB and USB-C ports too!
Did I mention that you will not need to worry about having enough power?? During our renovations, we specifically wired the craft room to handle all the sewing machines, irons, laptops, phone charging, and Cricut/Silhouette machines you can throw at it!
There are 8 separate electrical circuits for the craft tables that are all labeled on the outlet cover plates. The label corresponds with the same label in the electrical panel that we added within the craft room, so if a breaker were to trip, the guests have access to turn it back on. But since we have only up to 2 tables on one circuit, tripping a breaker should be very, very rare.
For quilters, we have 2 ironing stations and 2 cutting stations set up. These tables are all height adjustable as well! The cutting tables are each 32” x 71”. The ironing tables are 2’ x 4’ each. We do provide two full-size irons with steam options and two 24” x 36” self-healing cutting mats for your use. We even have some backups for those just-in-case situations! We also offer a backup sewing machine too! We do not want a broken machine to ruin your weekend getaway!
For non-quilter groups, the cutting tables could also be used as extra workstations if you wanted to spread out your group a little bit. The cutting tables are the exact same as the work tables, other than they have a larger table top so the cutting mats fit.
Surrounding the work tables there are 2 large design walls for your use. One measures 8’ x 8’ and the other is 4’ x 8’. These were made with flannel sheets so you should have no issue with your blocks sticking. We do ask that no pins or tape be used on these boards as they can wear the flannel sheet and the insulation board underneath over time.
When I was making plans for this craft room, I knew we had to make sure we had great lighting. I think we outdid ourselves! I actually was planning to have more than we ended with, but my husband and our electrician talked me out of a few. They thought we might need sunglasses if I did how many I was first planning lol. After using this space myself to sew, though, there is definitely plenty of light! I specifically picked out the bar-type lights so they would be directly over the center of each island of work tables. We added a third row of these lights for over the 8’ x 8’ design wall as well!
The craft room surrounds our living room. In the living room, there is a 65” smart TV and lots of comfy seating. There are two recliners, two armchairs, and a couch. If you need a break or want to do some hand work in a change of seating, you have lots of options close to your friends!
I think I may have saved the best part for last! This is something most do not know about since you cannot see it… but it is there under your feet waiting for its day to shine! Do you ever get cold feet in the winter? Probably not even a question I need to ask! Well, we have solved this for you! During our renovations, we added heated floors to the entire main level of the retreat! So you not only have warm feet while you work all day in the craft room, but anywhere in the house your feet will be warm!! Now I think that is a pretty awesome perk!
